TIG Wire
TIG rods are available for a range of materials including aluminium, carbon and alloy steels, stainless steel, cast iron, copper alloys, nickel alloys and titanium. Although rods are produced for all these materials, and others, the range of compositions available may be more limited for some materials than for others.
Rods are produced in a range of sizes from 1.2 to 5.0mm, although not all diameters are available for all materials and larger diameters may be available for certain materials. The most common sizes are between 1.6 and 3.2mm diameter. The standard length of a TIG rod is typically one metre.
TIG rods are supplied in a number of different ways from small packs containing only a few rods to larger packs weighing typically between 1kg and 25kg depending on the material involved.
A TIG rod is basically a solid wire and is less susceptible to contamination than other types of consumable, but care must be taken to ensure that it is stored in a clean, dry and weather-proof environment.
